My heart stops. It plunges into the darkness of my belly, and suddenly my breaths become undetected.
Her lips remain motionless, and eyes scream in disgusted agony- hurt rooted in much more than just my betrayal.
The cross I forced upon her dangles unearthly around her neck.
I’ve corrupted my creation- now incapable of loving anyone in their entirety- which I believe to be the greater sin.
“Mom?” She finally says, forcing her petrified lips together.
I shift, in the pantry closet, I had forgotten to lock, and introduce the woman.
